What it masks
The scan looks for structured personal data by pattern: email addresses, phone numbers, Social
Security numbers, credit-card and bank-account numbers, government and tax IDs, and personal
information tucked into the workbook’s document properties. Every match is replaced with a
[REDACTED] marker in a fresh copy — every non-personal cell, formula, and the sheet
structure are left exactly as they were.
The before→after ledger is the point
Nothing happens silently. You get a category-by-category breakdown — how many of each kind of personal data were found and where (down to the sheet and cell) — before you download. The masked values themselves are never echoed back to the page, so nothing can re-leak through this tool.
Know its limits
Detection is pattern-based, so it reliably catches things with a recognizable shape. It does not catch names or free-text personal details written in prose — those have no fixed pattern. The ledger says so plainly: scan the safe copy yourself before you share it. Choosing which categories to mask is coming next.
